MORE ABOUT ME

I'm well versed in being a student while having other responsibilities. During University, I worked part-time as a nanny and a lab manager while volunteering on various boards and committees.  I was the lab manager for KID Studies Centre with the UBC Early Development Research Group.  I handled general laboratory administration, supervised studies, collected data and performed descriptive statistics at UBC and Science World.  I was able to work flexible hours so I could volunteer weekly for a mental health organization called The Kaleidoscope. I helped with decisions surrounding hiring, marketing, budgeting, and grants.  While I was on the executive board, we won the Bell Let’s Talk Fund ($15,000) and Coast Capital Grant ($15,000).  My other role was to facilitate meetings and listen to students discuss mental health, then direct them to helpful resources.

During this time, I was the Chief Recruiting Officer for Kappa Alpha Theta Fraternity.  I also earned membership to Gamma Sigma Alpha, an honour society recognizing advance academic excellence.  My other honour society membership is with Order of Omega, which accepts fraternity men and women who have demonstrated a high standard of leadership, character, and values.  With the Order of Omega, I was the Vice President of Finance and later went on to become the UBC Chapter Advisor.

I've frequently been recognized for extensive involvement in philanthropic activities.  My favourite volunteer activity was coaching field hockey, after many years of playing competitive field hockey and soccer at the highest level.  I received a high-profile recognition award given to a graduating student nominated through the BCIT Distinguished Awards program called the BCIT Alumni Association Outstanding Student Leadership as well as the BCIT Legacy of Leadership.  I'm particularly proud of my Canadian National (CN) Undergraduate Scholarship, as it was awarded to best-in-class female students enrolled in post-secondary education in a program relevant to Science and Engineering.  I was fortunate to receive many scholarships to help fund my Bachelor of Science in Behavioural Neuroscience at the University of British Columbia and Diploma of Technology in Electroneurophysiology at the British Columbia Institute of Technology.  My education allowed me to pursue a rewarding career at Vancouver General Hospital.  I work as a Neurophysiology Technologist and serve on my union, Health Sciences Association, as Assistant Lead Steward.  In April 2022, I was elected to my union's board of directors to represent Region 4 (Vancouver Coastal Health Authority sites) and I enjoy the governance role and committee work.

When I’m not studying or working, I'm travelling at any chance I get.  I have backpacked to over 15 countries.  Being fluent in French and speaking some Spanish has been beneficial during my travels.  I’m creative and have been able to use my photography skills to post beautiful shots on my Instagram account (travel.alexandra) with over 21,100 followers, including advertisements that have helped fund my vacations.  Many of these trips I did solo, which demonstrates that I am an independent and confident woman.  I'm excited to see more of the world and learn from other cultures!
